The new Text- and Picturebook of the "Library of the Orient"
at Christian-Brandstätter-Verlag
NEW: Slideshow
about Libya.
Libya has a rich and overwhelming history. And because of its vast
mineral resources (oil, gas) and its present open-door policy this
country gains more and more importance and influence. Now, after
the end of the economic sanctions, German and other European companies
eagerly seek to invest in Libya. Moreover, the number of tourists
visiting Libya is constantly growing. Tourists in Libya find lots
of well preserved treasures of old cultures and natural phenomenons
that are unique in the world. To mention only some of them:
- Leptis Magna, best presevered Roman City. World Heritage Site
of the Unesco.
- Ghadames and Ghat, former oasis towns. World Heritage Site of
the Unesco.
- The 8.000 years-old petroglyphs in the Akakus Mountains. World
Heritage Site of the Unesco.
- The volcano area "Wau an-Namus", an unparalleled natural
phenomenon.
- The Mandara lakes in the middle of the desert.
- The antique Greek cities in the Cyrenaika.
In contrast to Libya's growing importance in Economics and Tourism
and to its unique sights there are only a few products about the
country on the book market. Most of them are travel books - but
there is no book, that describes and presents Libya on a large and
authentic scale.
Our project is destined to close this gap. We are produced a large
format text and picture book (208 pages, ca. 220 pictures) that
presents Libya in its vast diversity. We document the daily life
of people of different ethnics, historical sights, natural wonders
and the most important aspects in politics, economy, society, culture,
and sports - altogether in one book. Due to its geography the book
is divided into four main chapters. Each chapter describes its people,
daily life, the nature and sights of a region: Tripolitania, Syrte,
Cyrenaika, and the Fezzan with the Libyan Desert.
Our text- and picture book will probably be translated into English.

For this new text- and picture book we traveled Libya in late summer
and autumn of this year. This travel was sponsored by our partners:
